However youcan check up yourself at: They even offer a 30 day trial of teh SharpEye program. I see now that the SharpEye engine is now integrated into Photoscore. In successive incarnations the Photoscore has really improved. Since then I have eventually gone to Photoscore (starting at version 5) and found that it was much beter than the (at the time) other program I had. In 2003 I moved to Sibelius and tried the then Photoscore 3 and found it worse than SharpEye (as M.P. I used a scanning program way back in about 2000 which was based on SharpEye from Visiv in another program "MusicPublisher" from Braeburn and found it quite good then (I had been using MusicPublisher, or its older incarnation Noteworthy 2 since about 1997 - bought on price considerations!).

(I have even used clearly printed minature scores - scanning at 600 DPI and had good success - much quicker than manual input, some French scores from about 1900 can be problematical though - I had to do two in the last few years and resorted to manual input - a lot of notes in the Dukas Sorcerer's Apprentice)Įdit: the lite version will do most of the usual interpretation, but has limitations including some tuplets and number of staves / pages, not sure if it reads PDF's (the full version does) Conversely the last thing I scanned in was a 3 page printout from Sibelius and that was note perfect and only one small dynamic change to make. Lines, slurs and text can be more problematical as can their attachment points (in particular slurs vs ties - which can be a nightmare to sort out but not the easiest to get right - listening in Sib soon sorts things though - hanging sounds). Recently I had to use a score that had about 20 staves to a small page and that went in quite well. The recommended dpi is 300 greyscale (for normal size music) but I have found that in some cases (where the initial copy is not too good) that increasing to 400 dpi can improve things.
